Tobi's Photo I am a New York City-based writer and editor who lives with two cats, Sweet Pea (a boy) and Dimples (a girl). I have lived in the city for nine years –10 in May (2007), the longest I’ve lived anywhere in my adult life. I enjoy New York for the same reasons many other people do – its rich and abundant cultural offerings and diverse population and its energy from which I draw in pursuing my own creative writing, photography and journalism.

Like many people who live and work in the Big Apple, I run from pillar to post on most days. Much of my socializing occurs in bars and restaurants, events and on the run. I’ve found less emphasis here on sharing a home-cooked meal and pot-luck suppers. Perhaps it’s the small size of apartments, or the easy access to diverse kinds of food and dining experiences. We are literally drowning in food choices in New York and that can lead to trouble!

As an editor, I am invited to numerous events where the food and drink runneth over and it’s easy to over-eat and drink; the pounds can easily catch up with you. In September 2005, I decided to take control and carve out the time to pursue a personal fitness and eating plan.

I belong to a gym and exercise for at least 30 minutes a day. I also hired a trainer who became a strong supporter and helped me pursue my goals. I began to cut certain things from my diet and control portions; I also began taking long, brisk walks and jogs which I really enjoy.
